Matar al padre serie movistar

series review: «matar al padre» by mar coll

Now it is the turn of Matar al padre, a dramatic series, although with comic touches, composed of four episodes of about fifty minutes in which the Catalan filmmaker Mar Coll radiographs a family over a long period of time and the dynamics of the relationships between the members of the family.

In the post-Olympic Barcelona of 1996, we meet Jacobo Vidal, a lawyer by profession, a despotic and authoritarian man determined to control all aspects of his existence and that of his children, Tomás and Valeria? And also marked by a rather peculiar father figure.  He is an obsessive and dysfunctional father, who does not hesitate to bend any obstacle that stands in the way of his family’s well-being in order to force it into his own vision of the world, turning his children into victims of an «excess of paternal love».

We have explained to you that Killing the Father is a series (because it is in form), but you could also understand it as a film in four acts between which there are time jumps (which is heartfelt). And it is not a trivial matter: it could be watched in one go because it is not only self-conclusive but also «begs» to reach the final act, in which all the plots converge and a conciliatory message is sent to us. All the characters evolve and learn from each other.
